Global economy is continuing to perform strongly, with growth stabilizing at levels last seen more than two years ago in Q3. According to estimates by FocusEconomics, the global economy expanded 3.2% annually in Q3, matching the result in Q2. Q3’s reading mostly reflected improving economic dynamics in emerging-market economies such as Brazil and Russia, while developed nations continued expanding healthily on the back of rising real wages due to low inflation and largely accommodative monetary policies. While the global economy appears to be in a sweet spot, political developments are gradually taking center stage, threatening to undermine the current economic momentum.

Global automotive market become more and more dependent by internal dynamics in the Chinese market, after that during the 2016 this single market become 30% of total sales and the slow pace taken by the Asian giant is limiting the growth albeit a quite positive economic environment. In addition, US market is at all time highest level and has ended propellent for further growth.

Furthermore, the Global light vehicles market ended the year with a new all time record, the seventh in a row with 94.5 million vehicles sold, up 2.2% from the previous year

At brand-wise, the leadership of the Japanese Toyota Motor Company is undisputed with 2017 sales at the new all time record of 8.7 million, up 2.6%.

Volkswagen was second with a faster speed and 6.8 million units (+4.2%) with top performances in North and South America. feed by positive score in USA, China and Brazil while penalized by lost in Germany, UK, Turkey and Mexico.

In third place Ford is losing 2.0% with 6.1 million sales, losing in USA, UK and – in double-digit – China.

In fourth place Nissan has overtaken Honda, after a long fight number by number, with 5.13 million sales (+4.6%) while Honda did 5.07 million (+7.0%).

Koreans are struggling, first time in a decade, with Hyundai sixth with 4.46 million sales (-8.0%) and Kia 8th with 2.7 million sales (-9.3%). Both brands are losing near the half of sales in China.

Chevrolet was seventh with 4.1 million sales (+0.2%) while in 9th place Renault is fast growing with 2.6 million (+9.3%) as the 10th, Mercedes, with 2.56 (+10.1%).

The fastest growing brands, within the top 50 reported is the Chinese Roewe, 47th and up 70%, followed by Geely, 21st and +56%.

]]>
Switzerland Car Market 2015 was up for the third year in a row albeit shy Q4. Despite a disappointing economic scenario, the industry reported a +7%. Volkswagen was leader while Mercedes and Renault shine.

Economic Outlook

The Swiss economy has decelerated throughout 2015 and recent data showed that Q3’s GDP figures weren’t an exception. After avoiding falling into recession in the second quarter, the economy stagnated in the third quarter. While the disappointing figure was largely attributable to a contraction in fixed investment reflecting a weak performance of the construction sector, the country’s external sector remains fragile due to the overvalued currency and the slow recovery in the country’s main trading partners.

The economy will likely record another weak growth figure in the fourth quarter. In fact, retail sales contracted again in October and the KOF Economic Barometer plummeted to a seven-month low in November.

Market Outlook

The domestic industry sales has decelerated during the Q4 2015 with only a +3% increase over the correspondent period last year. However, the market closed the 2015 with the third increase in a row despite slow economy.

According to data released by the Auto Suisse, the Association of local Automotive Importers, in December car passenger’s sales had been 32.642 -0.7% while the entire 2015 sales had been 323.784, up 7.2%.

During the year, Volkswagen has sold 42.212 cars (+5.1%) with 13.0% of market share followed by BMW with 24.103 (+6.4%) and Mercedes, up 2 spots from 2014, with 22.884 (+24.5%).

Down the podium, Audi, down 1 spot, with 22.225 (+6.4%), Skoda, down 1 spot, with 20.972 (+7.5%), Renault with 14.821 (+26.2%), Opel with 13.769 )+2.9%) and Ford with 13.704 (+5.8%).

At Group wise, Volkswagen ended the 2015 with 31.5% of market share ahead of BMW with 9.0%, Renault-Nissan with 8.8% and Mercedes with 8.1%.

The best-selling model was the Volkswagen Golf with 15.288 sales (+6.4%) ahead of the Skoda Octavia with 12.228 units (+12.7%), the Volkswagen Polo with 7.210 (+22.5%), the Audi A3 with 5.725 (+10.0%) and the Seat Leon with 4.869 (+21.7%).

Global Automotive Industry hits the all-time record in the 2014, posting the fifth annual record in a row at 86.5 million vehicles. We report on the ranking of Top 50 Brands, with Toyota on Top, Chevrolet in decline and Jeep shining.

In the 2014 according to preliminary data collected by focus2move Research Team in over 110 markets, the total new Light Passengers Vehicles global market grew 2.8% from the correspondent month last year, fixing the new all-time record volume at 86.5 million units, over 2.5 million better than in the 2013.

Last year record was the fifth in a row for a very healthy industry that found a break on its growing path only in the 2008 and 2009, mainly for the EU and USA shortfall.

However the year ended with a second half pace lower than predicted, mainly due to Chinese market thin growth.

Toyota, the first Brand in the World, posted its new all-time record sales at 8.3 million units, up 1.2%.

In second Volkswagen hit its record as well, with 6.5 million, but something else will be celebrated in Germany, considering that the Volkswagen Group in the 2014 has taken the leadership in the sector, first time ever for any European brand. More details in the report on 2014 Global Groups.

Following the impressive 2013 performance, when it was the fastest growing brand, Ford last year kept the third place with a thin increase of only 50.000 units (or 1.0%) at 5.8 million.

After a long battle against Hyundai and Nissan, Chevrolet was able to defend the fourth place albeit losing over 200.000 units or 4.6% from the previous year, the worse Y.o.Y. performance among the Top 30 Brands.

The group behind, Hyundai, Nissan, Honda and Kia overtook the market with over 4% growth. All of them have hit their record!

Renault in 9th place fell 1.5% and Fiat 2.7%, losing two spots in favor of Peugeot (+8.3%) and Mercedes (+9.3%)

Among the Top 50 Brands, the fastest was the last, the Chinese BAIC that almost doubled sales from the previous year. Second was Jeep (26th with 875.000 sales, +38.0%) and the third was the Chinese Haval (43rd with 380.000 sales, +35.9%).
