Egypt new vehicles sales in 2017 fell down ruinously hit by inflation, huge price increase, fuel increase and higher taxes and duties. The market lost 36%, at lowest in this decade. Chevrolet is the leader with 21% of share, thanks to the dominion in commercial segment.

Egypt’s economy continues to gather strength heading into the new calendar year, although it remains fragile, as evidenced by December’s PMI which sank back into pessimistic territory.

Other indicators are more positive: In the July–September period growth strengthened, and the unemployment rate declined to a multi-year low. In addition, international reserves were significantly bolstered in 2017 thanks to renewed investor confidence, while the trade deficit narrowed sharply.

However, ordinary Egyptians still have shouldered a large part of the burden of recent reforms; inflation is eroding purchasing power, while unemployment, particularly among the young, is still worryingly high. Price pressures are likely to be stoked further by a second fuel subsidy cut in June.

Following two years (2014 and 2015) of high sales volume, in the 2016 the domestic vehicles market dropped down, hit by the impressive increase in the vehicles key-on-hand price and this trend has not changed in the 2017, when, VAT was increased again as the duty for vehicles over 2 liters. Indeed, according to the data released by the AMIC, in the 2017 total vehicles (cars and commercials) sales have been 134.885, down a huge 36.8%

At brand-wise, Chevrolet kept the leadership thanks to the dominion in the commercial vehicles segment, selling 29.345 units (-22.0%) with 21.8% of market share. In second place Hyundai with 21.897 (-44.9%) and in third Nissan with 21.181 (-7.6%). These three brands hold 53.7% of market share.

In 2014 Egypt Vehicles Market hit the all-time record thanks to a renovated political stability and country economic recovery. Chevrolet, Hyundai and Nissan were on podium.

In December 2014, according to data released by focus2move Research Team through local sources and the Egyptian Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC), total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold have been 24.172, up 15.9% from the correspondent month last year.

Full Year 2014 sales in Egypt have been 273.440, up 38.5% from 2013, hitting the all-time record established in the 2008.

Indeed, 2014 tremendous growth was fueled by low sales in the previous year when the country was under severe political, religion and social disruption.

Now the country environment is back at almost stable conditions with perspective for significant economic progress in the next year, with great opportunity for the automotive sector.

Just in few countries in the world, Chevrolet can consider the domestic market as a feud and one is Egypt (few others are in South America). Indeed, delivering 6.155 vehicles in December the American brand ended the year with over 50.000 sales (+24.6%) and 19.7% of market share.

Hyundai in second sold 3.462 units in December and 45.551 in the year (+16.7%) while the third of December, Renault with 1.935 units, was only 7th in the entire year.

Third in the annual race was Nissan, with 27.311 sales (+10.0%).

As far as the car group’s performance and ranking, the December leader was General Motors with 26.8% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 20.8% and Renault-Nissan with 13.7%.

As far as best-selling models ranking, the Chevrolet TFR single cab was on top with.2.930 sales (+42.2%) ahead of Renault Logan with 1.408 units (+330%) and Geely Emgrand 7 with 1.391 (+2.1%).

In the annual ranking, behind the Chevrolet TFR single cab with 24.892 sales, there was the Hyundai Verna with 24.281 and the Nissan Sunny with 18.175.

Egypt 2013. Vehicles sales down moderately https://www.focus2move.com/egypt-full-year-2013-slighly-down-but-koreans-lost-10-points-of-share-under-chinese-attack/ Tue, 01 Apr 2014 09:21:42 +0000 http://focus2move.com/?p=5582 Despite social and political internal conflict, during the 2013 the Egyptian car market fell marginally from the previous year. However, the phenomenal attack posted by Chinese brands changed the competitive structure with Koreans struggling hard.

]]>

In December 2013, the Egyptian car market kept the declining trend ending the year losing volume from the previous year.  Indeed, accordingly with preliminary sales data released by A.M.I.D., the Egyptian Association of Car Manufacturers, the light vehicles sales in Egypt have been 20.850, down 4.0% from last year, the third YoY loss in a row. Full Year sales were 197.535, down 1.4% from 2012.

Following years of up and down, last year the market was surprisingly stable, despite a sharp fall reported in July, when internal social clashes touched the highest level.

Chevrolet sold over 43k with market share at 21.9%, despite second half was below 20%. Chevrolet leadership is based on its dominion in the LCV segment with the TFR Single Cab sales at 18.1k and near 10% of total market. In this segment, Chevrolet is less exposed at the Chinese brands attack.

The leader in the car passengers segment still is Hyundai that also claims for the best-selling model with the Verna, an extraordinary success in Egypt, retailed last year in 19.4k units with 9.8% of total market share. Hyundai total sales were 30.6k with 15.5% of share, down 5.3 points from the previous year, when Hyundai was market leader.

Toyota was third, up 1 spot from 2012 and 4 from 2011, with 19k sales and 96% of share, up 2.3 points.

Losing one place from 2012 and 4.6 points of share, Kia ranked 4th confirming a sudden crisis for Korean models in the country, probably due to the strong and growing competition from Chinese players. Indeed, Geely was 5th gaining 3.6points of share, but also the others Chinese had improved their performance.
