UAE 2017. Still entrapped in the crisis, the auto market fell in double-digit https://www.focus2move.com/emirates-vehicles-market/ Mon, 22 Jan 2018 07:00:43 +0000 http://focus2move.com/?p=24607 Emirates vehicles market in 2017 has lost 11.3% reducing the annual lost in the Q4 when consumers have anticipated purchases, before VAT 5% introduction in January. 2018 perspectives are negative despite the strong growth of non-oil sector.

]]>

Emirates vehicles market in 2017 has lost 11.3% reducing the annual lost in the Q4 when consumers have anticipated purchases, before VAT 5% introduction in January. 2018 perspectives are negative despite the strong growth of non-oil sector.

UAE’s non-oil sector sector reached a near three-year high in December thanks to healthy expansions in output and new orders. Coupled with figures from previous months, this bodes well for economic growth in Q4, as consumers and firms brought forward planned consumption before the introduction of a 5% VAT on 1 January.

The new tax is an important step towards broadening the tax base and strengthening a fiscal position which is already among the most solid in the region. On the downside, employment and wage growth remain subdued despite robust domestic activity, which could weigh on private consumption heading into 2018.

UAE vehicles market is running across the hardest crisis of last decades, following a long period of robust expansion. Indeed, in recent years sales grew from 291.000 in the 2012 to the all time record of 408.252 established in the 2015.

The demand contraction related to the oil price decline in the international market hit the country more than any other in the region. In addition, it must be considered the relevance of trading activity for vehicles registered in the Emirates and then exported (others GCCs and Africa).

This activity has been hit as well, due to low demand from Africa and others GCC countries. The effect was a huge fall in the 2016 and again in the 2017, when full year sales fell down at 276.081 (-11.2% ) despite the sales boom reported in December.

Saudi Arabia 2017. Auto market at lowest level in this decade https://www.focus2move.com/saudi-arabia-vehicles-sales-statistics/ Thu, 18 Jan 2018 07:00:31 +0000 http://focus2move.com/?p=14790 Saudi Arabia Vehicles Sales Statistics in 2017 fell 23% hit by first recession since 1999, due to reduced oil output in compliance with OPEC’s agreement and reduced government support. This albeit December was pushed up by sales anticipating VAT introduction.

]]>

Saudi Arabia Vehicles Sales Statistics in 2017 fell 23% hit by first recession since 1999, due to reduced oil output in compliance with OPEC’s agreement and reduced government support. This albeit December was pushed up by sales anticipating VAT introduction.

Reduced oil output in compliance with OPEC’s oil-cut deal, low oil prices and reduced government support led the Saudi economy to contract in 2017 for the first time since 1999.

According to preliminary figures, GDP contracted 0.7% in 2017, contrasting the 1.7% rise in 2016. The oil and construction sectors represented the bulk of the deterioration. To boost economic growth and solidify the Saudi Vision 2030 plan, which seeks to diversify the economy away from oil, the government presented the 2018 budget on 19 December. It includes the newly introduced value-added tax and prioritizes capital expenditure.

Saudi Arabia vehicles market is enveloped in the deepest crisis ever. Indeed sales improved fast until the 2015, before that the country entered in recession, due to the fall of oil price in the international market and the measures taken by the government reduced further consumers spending, hitting the industry. In the 2016 the market fell 15.3%, but it was just a step in the prolonged crisis in place.

Indeed, 2017 started very slow with first half sales down 16.1% at 304.000 units, but the third quarter was even worse, losing near 30%. Just at the end of the year the market recovered with December booming up 26.2%. Indeed, the introduction on VAT from December 1st, with the increase in price by 5%, over-stimulated consumer’s to anticipate sales before year-end.

However, full year 2017 have been almost negative, with light vehicles sales at 544.721, the worse data in this decade, down 23.9% from the previous year.

2018 Outlook is still negative. The start of the year will be penalized by VAT introduction and by the anticipated sales in December. However, the rest of the year will be again penalized by the economic crisis, with oil price expected stable. Our current forecast (-4.8%) could be optimistic.

Cyprus Cars Market in 2016 kept recovering after the crisis with a strong increase over the previous year while still at the half of the record level. Ford market leader, ahead of Nissan and Volkswagen.

Market Outlook

Cyprus’ main economic indicators for the end of 2016 look positive, with industrial production and retail sales growing strongly in October and November respectively, and consumer and business confidence rising substantially over the year, despite dipping slightly in December. Growth is likely to dip slightly in 2017 but should remain robust, fueled by tourism and greater private consumption and exports.

Near to reach 2.000 units for the first time since 2012, the domestic cars market posted a splendid annual increase in double-digit for the third consecutive year. Despite the registrations in December ended the year with a negative mood, 2016 was great with 12.839 units (+24.1%).

Therefore actual level is almost the half of the record hit in the 2008.

Sales of light commercial vehicles had been 1.923 (+33.3%).

Competitive Arena

Ford kept the leadership with 2.186 sales (+27.1%) ahead of Nissan and Volkswagen respectively up 19.0% and 18.7% at 1.838 and 1.461. Among the highest growths of the 2016 were recorded by Suzuki, Land Rover, Mazda, Renault and Fiat, while the best performers were Honda and Hyundai, surging 152.7% and 129.5%.

Jaguar, Subaru and Citroen posted the only double-digit declines of the year, followed by Volvo, Dacia, Kia, Audi and Porsche with less remarkable sales losses.

The best selling model was the Volkswagen Golf for the second consecutive year with 733 units (+5.9%) ahead of the Nissan Qashqai with 661 (+0.3%) and the Ford Fiesta with 498 (+29.9%.)

UAE 2016. UAE best selling cars 2016 ranking shows a new leader while the ranking has been re-mixed by the effect of sharp and sudden market decline after years of outstanding performances.

The UAE has proven fairly resilient to the recent economic headwinds triggered by low oil prices and weak global demand, due to its relatively diversified economy compared to that of neighboring Gulf countries. However, GDP growth is slowing down and lower oil revenues have strained public finances, increasing the need for a tight fiscal adjustment.

In the 2016 a sharp consumer’s decline hit the domestic vehicles demand in the United Arab Emirates with dealers struggling for the huge stock and their un experience to manage a new environment, after sixth years of consecutive growth.

The ranking of best-selling cars was effected by the economic environment but is also reflecting the “export potential” of single models, considering that at least the 20% of cars sold in the country use to be exported.

So, the ranking propose a new leader, after the surprisingly victory of the Mitsubishi Lancer in the 2015 “race”.

Indeed, the new leader has gained sixth spots from the same period last year and was the Toyota Land Cruiser with 18.328 units (+44.0%).

It was followed by the Nissan Patrol with 15.532 (-7.4%) and the Toyota Hilux with 15.331 sales (-27.4%)

In fourth place the Mitsubishi Pajero with 11.811 units (-30.0%) followed by the previous year leader, the Mitsubishi Lancer, with 11.417 (-58.6%), the Toyota Prado with 9.976 units (-33.3%), the Toyota Land Cruiser P/U with 7.682 (-43.4%), the BMW X5 with 7.458 (+9.6%), the Toyota Corolla with 7.032 (-50.3% )and in 10th place the Toyota Camry with 6.747 (-29.3%).

Emirates 2016. Auto sales dropped a huge 27% https://www.focus2move.com/emirates-auto-sales-2016/ Fri, 17 Feb 2017 06:00:17 +0000 http://focus2move.com/?p=29430 Emirates Auto Sales 2016 dropped down more than any other Top market in the World, hit by weak demand both from real internal demand and trading sector. All manufacturers fell down, but Infiniti and Jaguar.

Emirates Auto Sales 2016 dropped down more than any other Top market in the World, hit by weak demand both from real internal demand and trading sector. All manufacturers fell down, but Infiniti and Jaguar.

The UAE’s economy strengthened in the last few months of 2016 and has started the current year on a positive note, underpinned by improving economic conditions in the non-oil sector and an uptick in exports, with the country’s PMI rising uninterruptedly from October onwards. However, growth over last year as a whole is likely to have disappointed, due in part to lower oil prices.

In addition, the non-oil sector was subdued, as the strength of the dirham hurt firms’ competitiveness and dented tourism, while fiscal austerity suppressed domestic demand.

Following years of real booming volume, driven both by real internal demand, for one of the fastest growing nation in the World, and by external demand, considering the trading to Africa and rest of Gulf area for vehicles “officially” sold in the UAE (and registered here), the 2016 was a real nightmare for the UAE Automotive industry.

Indeed, internal demand collapsed mainly for government actions which depressed the domestic demand above expectations. As regard export front, both African and Gulf channels found harsh time, with all countries of destination having passed a negative year, with weak internal demand and higher barrier to “grey” import. Only in the case of Algeria, demand was strong as ever.

The result in terms of full year sales was really bad, with total light vehicles sales felt near 0.3 million (308.000) from the above 0.4 touched in the previous two years. The only positive consideration is that the major cut was suffered by trading sales.

The fall of 27.4% follows a series of two consecutive all time records and a sixth consecutive growth, confirming as the UAE is the most volatility vehicles market in the Gulf area.

Moreover, the UAE fall was the deepest among the Top 30 global vehicles markets.

Almost all manufacturers have reported lost, starting from the leader Toyota, down 25.2% and followed in the ranking by Nissan (-23.4%), Mitsubishi (-46.4%), BMW (-10.4%), Hyundai (-13.4%), Ford (-23.2%), Kia (-8.7%), Lexus (-3.8%) and Chevrolet (-19.9%).

Among the few positive players, Infiniti, with sales up 31.5% and Jaguar, up 13.6%.

Saudi Arabia Vehicles Sales 2016 at the sharpest decline in the last twenty years hit by oil price reduction and government actions to drain liquidity for budget. Toyota lost near 30% while Nissan advanced on podium.

Economic activity decelerated to a multi-year low in 2016 as weak global oil prices continued to drag on growth. As oil revenues fell, the government slashed public spending and halted a number of investment projects. Moreover, the government’s ample financing needs as a result of its large budget deficit drained liquidity in the Kingdom’s financial markets, pushing up interbank rates and hurting non-oil activities.

Following a long positive run with sales volume almost doubled in the period 2010-2015, the market was severely hit in the 2016 by both reduction of oil price and government measures to drain liquidity in sustain of budget deficit. The consequence was a very poor demand both from private and public customers.

Indeed, according to the KSA Authority for Transportation, the 2016 year-end light vehicles sales had been 677.248, down a sharp 20.0%, the second worse year on year performance out of top 30 Global Vehicles markets, behind just to the near UAE, hit by the same troubles.

Sharp was the lost of the market leader, Toyota, down 28.7%, while the second, Hyundai, contained the lost at 9.1%, and Nissan improved 10.1%, advancing on the podium and overtaking Kia (-11.8%)

Among the few positive scores, Mazda (+4.2%, with Mazda6 within the top 10 models), Honda (+1.4%), Mercedes (+8.7%) and Suzuki (+8.9%).

While OPEC’s 30 November decision to cut production has succeeded in raising global crude prices, Saudi Arabia will not greatly benefit from this situation in the short-term as it is responsible for most of the output reduction.

There is currently no VAT system in Saudi Arabia. However VAT will be introduced by 2018, according to the Saudi Finance Minister. The decision to introduce VAT was agreed upon at the 102nd meeting of GCC Finance Ministers in Riyadh. Reports indicate that the GCC bloc will introduce VAT of up to 5%. The tax would exclude 95 food items, but would be applicable for all citizens and residents. Health, education, and social services will likely be excluded.
