World Best Selling Compact Cars of  2023. Toyota Corolla keeps dominating the rankings (-0.1%), followed by the Honda Civic (+13.4%) and the Hyundai Elantra (+11.3%). Maruti Baleno, GAC Aion S and Nissan Sentra all enter the Top 10 for the first time.

Taking into consideration sales up to October 2023, as in the past few years, the best-selling compact car remains the Toyota Corolla with 921,568 sales, a 0.1% decrease in sales from the prior year. Produced in Japan since 1966, the Corolla has been the best-selling nameplate in the World for 20 years and is also the best-selling car in all history, with over 50 million sold so far.

In second place we have the Honda Civic with 392,180 units sold (+13.4%). Launched in 1972, it is actually at the 11th generation (since 2021), available as both sedan and liftback. The last generation is the only Civic not to offer a coupe version since the second generation because of its declining sales.

In third position there is the Hyundai Elantra with 273,183 sales  (+11.3%), followed by the Volkswagen Golf with 229,847 new registrations (-11.7%), the Volkswagen Sagitar with 220,450 sales (+25.5%), and the GAC Aion S -up 15 spots- with 193,960 sales (+124.2%).

The Audi A3 with 182,114 registrations maintains 7th spot (+4.9%). Next we have the Maruti Baleno  -up 5 spots- with 170,359 sales (+15.3%), the Nissan Sentra -up 9 spots- at 160,741 (+37.3%) and in 10th place the Mazda3 -up 1 spot- with 155,118 sales (+4.8%).

Ireland Best Selling Cars ranking in June 2023 sees the Hyundai Tucson on top of the leaderboard (-30.3%). The Volkswagen ID.4 surges 74.5% into 5th spot. Tesla Model Y Enters the top 10 (+766.5%).

The Best-Selling Cars ranking in H1 2023 is lead by the Hyundai Tucson, maintaining 1st position with 3,229 new sales (-30.3%) and 4.2% market share.

The Toyota Corolla ranks in second with 2,532 sales (-21.8%), ahead of the Kia Sportage -up 3 spots- with 2,409 new registrations (+21.1%) and the Toyota Yaris Cross with 2,133 units sold (+44.0%).

In fifth place, the Volkswagen ID.4 rises 7 spots with 2,031 sales (+74.5%), followed by the Toyota C-HR with 1,949 registrations (-10.3%) and the Toyota Yaris with 1,918 units sold (-6.1%).

Closing the top 10, the Nissan Qashqai rises 6 spots into 8th with 1,603 sales (+42.0%), the Skoda Octavia -up 2 spots- with 1,576 units sold (+33.0%) and the Tesla Model Y in 10th with 1,525 new registrations (+766.5%).

World Best Selling Compact Cars of  2022. Toyota Corolla keeps dominating the rankings, followed by the Honda Civic and the Volkswagen Golf. Audi A3, MG 5 and Maruti Baleno all enter the Top 10 for the first time.

In 2022, as in the past few years, the best-selling compact car remains the Toyota Corolla with 1.1 million sales, a 2.8% decrease in sales from the prior year. Produced in Japan since 1966, the Corolla has been the best-selling nameplate in the World for 20 years and is also the best-selling car in all history, with over 50 million sold so far.

In second place we have the Honda Civic with 402.022 units sold (-31.6%). Launched in 1972, it is actually at the 11th generation (since 2021), available as both sedan and liftback. The last generation is the only Civic not to offer a coupe version since the second generation because of its declining sales.

In third position there is the Volkswagen Golf with 303,376 sales  (-4.0%), followed by the Hyundai Elantra with 299,221 new registrations (-16.1%), the Volkswagen Bora with 230,215 sales (-7.3%), and the Volkswagen Sagitar with 225,534 sales (-4.3%).

The Audi A3 with 211,996 registrations enters the top 10 taking seventh place, rising 5 spots from the previous year (+19.7%). Next we have the MG 5  -up 3 spots- with 201,441 sales (+10.7%), the Toyota Levin -down 1 spot- at 197,501 (-11.4%) and in 10th place the Maruti Baleno -up 5 spots- with 185,665 sales (+7.8%).

Ireland Best Selling Cars ranking of 2022 sees the Hyundai Tucson on top of the leaderboard, followed by the Toyota Corolla. The Toyota Yaris Cross reaches 8th place and the Kia Sportage enters the podium

In the best-selling cars ranking of 2022, the Hyundai Tucson remains the leader and reaches 6.1% market share with 6,444 units sold (+17.5%). 

In second ranks the Toyota Corolla with 4.0% market share and 4,244 sales (-2.8%), ahead of the Kia Sportage -up 7 spots- with 3,542 new registrations (+68.4%) and the Toyota C-HR -up 1 spot- with 3,108 units sold (+20.0%).

In fifth place, the Volkswagen ID.4 rises 14 spots with 2,998 sales (+109.2%), followed by the Toyota RAV4 with 2,912 registrations (+13.6%) and the Toyota Yaris – down 4 spots- with 2,685 units sold (-0.8%).

Closing the top 10, we find the Toyota Yaris Cross up in 8th place from 115th with 2,273 sales, the Hyundai Kona -up 2 spots- with 2,128 units sold (+7.9%) and the Skoda Kodiaq in 10th with 2,099 new registrations this year (+10.9%).

World Best Selling Compact Cars segment in 2021 final data drops 1.4% with 9.9 million global sales. The Toyota Corolla keeps dominating the ranking, followed by the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra. The Mazda 3 enters the leaderboard, rising 4 spots.

In 2021 final data, as in the past few years, the best-selling compact car remains the Toyota Corolla with 1,147k sales, holding 11.6% market share. Produced in Japan since 1966, the Corolla has been the best-selling nameplate in the World for 20 years and is also the best-selling car in all history, with over 45 million sold so far.

In second place we have the Honda Civic with 587k units sold (5.9% share). Launched in 1972, it is actually at the 10th generation (since 2016), available with 3/4/5 doors. The 2017 volume was boosted by the last generation distribution in all countries (over 140) including Europe, where the model is produced in the UK (for hatch version) and Turkey (for the sedan).

In third place we have the Hyundai Elantra -up 4 spots- with 333k sales and 3.4% share.

In fourth position there is the Volkswagen Golf with 317k sales  (3.2% share) followed by the Volkswagen Bora with 248k units (2.5% share), and the Volkswagen Sagitar with 236k sales (2.4% share).

In seventh place the Toyota Levin -rising 3 spots- with 223k sales (2.3% share) followed by the Mazda 3  -rising 4 spots- with 213k units (2.2% share), the Geely Emigrand EC7 with 211k units (2.1% share) and in 10th place the Mercedes A Class -down 4 spotswith 210k units (1.8% share).

In the best-selling cars ranking in 2021, the Hyundai Tucson overtakes the previous leader and reaches 5.2% market share with 5,484 units sold.

In second place, the former leader Toyota Corolla, holding 4.2% share with 4,365 units, ahead of the Toyota Yaris -up 7 spots- with 2,706 units sold (2.6% share) and the Volkswagen Tiguan -down 1 spot- with 2,674 units sold (2.6% share).

In fifth place, the Toyota C-HR -up 2 spots- with 2,590 units (2.5% share), followed by the Skoda Octavia -up 1 spot- with 2,557 units (2.4% share) and the Volkswagen Golf with 2,347 units sold (2.2% share).

Closing the top 10, we find the Volkswagen Golf with 2,347 units sold (2.2% share) and the Ford Focus -down 5 spots- with 2,151 units (2.1% share) ahead of the Kia Sportage -up 1 spot- with 2,103 units (2% share).

In 2020, as in the past few years, the best-selling compact car is the Toyota Corolla with 1.1 million sales, holding 11% of market share, 1% more compared to 2019. Produced in Japan since 1966, the Corolla has been the best-selling nameplate in the World for 20 years and is also the best-selling car in all history, with over 45 million sold so far.

In second place we have the Honda Civic with 687.491 units sold (6.9% share). Launched in 1972, it is actually at the 10th generation (since 2016), available with 3/4/5 doors. The 2017 volume was boosted by the last generation distribution in all countries (over 140) including Europe, where the model is produced in the UK (for hatch version) and Turkey (for the sedan).

In third place we have the Volkswagen Golf with 475.205 sales (4.7% share). Produced since 1974, the Golf has been the best-selling car in Europe since 1976 and is actually at the 7th generation (since 2012). It is only hatchback (3/5 doors and wagon) because the sedan version is called Jetta. Available with two electric versions, the e-Golf launched in early 2014, and the Golf GTE, the plug-in version launched in 2015.

In fourth position, the Volkswagen Bora jumped 1 spot with 331.682 sales  (3.3% share) overtaking the Hyundai Elantra with 300.106 units (3% share), followed by the Volkswagen Sagitar -up 2 spots- with 299.839 sales (3% share).

In seventh place the Mercedes A class with 282.099 sales (2.8% share) followed by the Ford Focus -down 2 spots- with 241.445 units (2.4% share), the Geely Emgrand EC7 -up 6 spots- with 234.499 units (2.3% share) and in 10th place the Toyota Levin with 226.683 units (2.3% share).

In second place, the former leader Hyundai Tucson, holding 3.7% with 3.227 units, ahead of the Volkswagen Tiguan -up 1 spot- with 2.977 units sold (3.4% share) and the Ford Focus -up 4 spots- with 2.503 units sold (2.9% share).

In fifth place, the Hyundai Kona -up 2 spots- with 2.321 units (2.6% share), followed by the Volkswagen Golf with 2.131 units (2.4% share) and the fast-growing Toyota C-HR -up 3 spots- with 2.078 units sold (2.4% share).

In 2019, like in all recent years, the best-selling compact car was the Toyota Corolla with 1.3 million sales, holding 10.2% of market share. Produced in Japan since the 1966, the Corolla is the best-selling nameplate in the World since 20 years and is also the best-selling car in absolute in the history, with over 45 million sold so far. Since 2012, the 11th generation is on sales and distributed in 170 countries. Strange to say, Corolla is not market leader in any single country in the World.

In second place, the Honda Civic with 815.644 units sold. Launched in the 1972, it is actually at the 10th generation (since 2016), available with 3/4/5 doors. The 2017 volume was boosted by the last generation distribution in all countries (over 140) including Europe, where the model is produced in UK (for hatch version) and Turkey (for the sedan).

In third place the Volkswagen Golf with 681.387 sales, declining in double-digits. Produced since 1974, the Golf has been the best-selling car in Europe since the 1976 and actually is at the 7th generation (since 2012). It is only hatchback (3/5 doors and wagon) because the twin on sedan version is called Jetta. Available with two electric versions, the e-Golf launched in early 2014, and the Golf GTE, the plug-in version launched in the 2015.

In fourth position, the Hyundai Elantra with 437.213 sales – losing a huge 29.4% – ahead of the Ford Focus with 338.918 units (-25.1%) and the Volkswagen Bora with 335.253 sales, gaining 7 spots from the previous year.

In seventh place the Mercedes A Class – the best top 10 model – with 316.141 (+72.6%) followed by the Mazda3 with 315.504 units (-11%), the Volkswagen Sagitar with 307.593 (-0.7%) and in 10th place the Volkswagen Jetta with 272.670 (-44.5%).

In 2019, the Irish market reported a new market leader, the Toyota Corolla, which gained over 2 points of share from the previous year, reaching 3.8%.

In second place, the former leader Hyundai Tucson, holding 3.3%, ahead of the Nissan Qashqai with 3.2% and the Volkswagen Tiguan, which improved in double-digits, gaining 2 spots from 2018.

In fifth place, the Skoda Octavia with 2.8%, followed by the Volkswagen Golf – which slipped down by 3 positions – and the fast-growing Hyundai Kona – with 2.5% – up 9 spots.

Closing the top 10, we find the Ford Focus and the Toyota Yaris, both declining in double-digits, ahead of the Toyota C-HR, ending with 2.2%.
