World Best Selling Compact Cars segment in 2019 fell down 11.2% with 12.3 million global sales. The Toyota Corolla kept dominating the ranking, followed by the Honda Civic and the Volkswagen Golf. The Mercedes A Class was the best top 10 model, booming 72.6%.

In 2019, like in all recent years, the best-selling compact car was the Toyota Corolla with 1.3 million sales, holding 10.2% of market share. Produced in Japan since the 1966, the Corolla is the best-selling nameplate in the World since 20 years and is also the best-selling car in absolute in the history, with over 45 million sold so far. Since 2012, the 11th generation is on sales and distributed in 170 countries. Strange to say, Corolla is not market leader in any single country in the World.

In second place, the Honda Civic with 815.644 units sold. Launched in the 1972, it is actually at the 10th generation (since 2016), available with 3/4/5 doors. The 2017 volume was boosted by the last generation distribution in all countries (over 140) including Europe, where the model is produced in UK (for hatch version) and Turkey (for the sedan).

In third place the Volkswagen Golf with 681.387 sales, declining in double-digits. Produced since 1974, the Golf has been the best-selling car in Europe since the 1976 and actually is at the 7th generation (since 2012). It is only hatchback (3/5 doors and wagon) because the twin on sedan version is called Jetta. Available with two electric versions, the e-Golf launched in early 2014, and the Golf GTE, the plug-in version launched in the 2015.

In fourth position, the Hyundai Elantra with 437.213 sales – losing a huge 29.4% – ahead of the Ford Focus with 338.918 units (-25.1%) and the Volkswagen Bora with 335.253 sales, gaining 7 spots from the previous year.

In seventh place the Mercedes A Class – the best top 10 model – with 316.141 (+72.6%) followed by the Mazda3 with 315.504 units (-11%), the Volkswagen Sagitar with 307.593 (-0.7%) and in 10th place the Volkswagen Jetta with 272.670 (-44.5%).
