Subsequently in 2015 demand for light commercial vehicles fell 39.4%, reaching 44,388 by the end of 2016 (-51.3%). This collapse has been a consequence of western companies exiting from the country, local manufacturers not being able to keep up with demand and the economic crisis which has reduced buyers purchasing power.
With the conflict in Ukraine not showing signs of slowing down, the damage on the economy and consequentially the vehicle market will, with high probability, continue through 2023.

Russian automotive industry grew up at an all-time record of 2.92 million units in 2013, and it was among the top 10 in the World.
However, the market was severely hit by Crimea invasion-related sanctions and since 2014 dropped down losing over half of the volume in only three years landing at 1.42 million units in 2016 when the fall ended, to start a progressive recovery to near 1.8 million in the 2019.
The pandemic effects in 2020 reduce sales volume in the range of 1.5 million, but when Russia invaded Ukraine, the 24th of February 2022, the cost to the industry was heavy. In fact, the market lost 58.8% in volume, reaching a total of 686,497sales.
If the trend posted at the start of 2023 continues through out the year, we project the market to fall another 30% to roughly 0.4 million cumulative sales.
In the tables below we report sales for All Brands, Top 10 Manufacturers Group and Top 10 Models.

While formally independent by Russian political influence, the Uzbekistan leadership have deeply influenced the development of the vehicles market, using it as a cash cow for the State finance.
Limiting the market to the only national producer (in partnership with General Motors) creating huge barriers with duties on import, allowed to control the distribution and maximise the financial return, in a market potentially at half million annual sales, but fluctuating between 100 and 200 thousand sales.
Now there is a plan to open the market to importers, but the economic environment became negative and the shortage in components and microchips is severely hitting the market.

In 2022 the Uzbek vehicle market totaled 176,521 sales, an 12.8% loss from the previous year. Despite the overall negative performance in December registrations grew in double-digits for the 3rd consecutive month, reporting 17,515 new units sold (+35.3%).
The market is still widely dominated by the former GM company- now nationalized – although there is a process in place to open the market to foreign manufacturers.
In May 2022 import duties have been dramatically reduced to accelerate the process, but so far the results are very limited.
The local company is producing under Chevrolet and Daewoo brand and is heavily suffering for lackness of components and microchips, with production halt several time this year and with a long cue of produced vehicles parked outside of the plant waiting for chips arrival.
The same issue is limiting the production of the new Lada plant, opened in the fall 2021 and aiming to produce over 5.000 vehicles per year, but actually producing at 30% of capacity, with short supply for several component.
In addition to the production shortage the companies are increasing prices in double-digit and this explains the terrible performance in the first 3 quarters of the year.
