Market Trend and Outlook

The Argentinian Vehicle Market in October 2023 grows for the 16th consecutive month, reporting 39,648 new registrations and a 42.3% year-on-year increase in sales. YTD figures reach 368,191 up 16.7% from the prior year.

Medium-Term Market Trend

The Argentinian light vehicle market had many ups and downs in the last decade, rising to 917,777 sales in 2013 and collapsing 25.4% in the following year to 684,459 new registrations. Sales fell to 633,740 in 2015 and began to recover up to 863,556 in 2017. 2018 and 2019 both reported losses with the later falling 42.9% reaching the lowest of the past decade at 438,590.

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 worsened the situation causing the market to fall another 30.7% to 303,793.

Post-covid the Argentinian light vehicle market is showing signs of recovery with 2021 ending at 355,793 sales (+17.1%) and 2022 totaling 392,533 sales, a 6.5% growth from the prior year. The momentum gained in the second half of 2022 continues into 2023, with the first months of the year reporting strong growth.

Despite the great performance in the last few years, there are a few factors that  will put negative pressure on the market throughout 2023: the disruption in the global supply chain caused by a lack of raw materials, in particular for the production of microchips and the Governments push towards Evs. This last point isn’t as important now as it will be in the future, considering that currently only 0.45% of market share in South America belongs to BEVs.

Market Trend and Outlook

The Uzbek Vehicle Market in June 2023 grows for the 3rd month in a row, reporting 28,450 new registrations (+12.2%). H1 figures at 163,407 are up 5.1% from the previous year.

Looking at cumulative data from H1 2023 brand-wise, Chevrolet dominates the market with 78.5% market share and a 4.1% year-on-year growth in sales. The second biggest brand is Daewoo, up 4.2% in volume with 17.6% of the countries total market share.

Medium-Term Market Trend

While formally independent by Russian political influence, the Uzbekistan leadership have deeply influenced the development of the vehicles market, using it as a cash cow for the State finance.

Limiting the market to the only national producer (in partnership with General Motors) creating huge barriers with duties on import, allowed to control the distribution and maximise the financial return, in a market potentially at half million annual sales, but fluctuating between 100 and 200 thousand sales.

Now there is a plan to open the market to importers, but the economic environment became negative and the shortage in components and microchips is severely hitting the market.

]]> Uzbek Vehicles Market, despite being penalized by microchips shortage, recovers in last months of 2022. Total sales at 176,521 are down 12.8% from the previous year. December reported the 3rd consecutive growth with 17,515 new registrations (+35.3%).

Market Trend and Outlook

In 2022 the Uzbek vehicle market totaled 176,521 sales, an 12.8% loss from the previous year. Despite the overall negative performance in December registrations grew in double-digits for the 3rd consecutive month, reporting 17,515 new units sold (+35.3%).

The market is still widely dominated by the former GM company- now nationalized – although there is a process in place to open the market to foreign manufacturers.

In May 2022 import duties have been dramatically reduced to accelerate the process, but so far the results are very limited.

The local company is producing under Chevrolet and Daewoo brand and is heavily suffering for lackness of components and microchips, with production halt several time this year and with a long cue of produced vehicles parked outside of the plant waiting for chips arrival.

The same issue is limiting the production of the new Lada plant, opened in the fall 2021 and aiming to produce over 5.000  vehicles per year, but actually producing at 30% of capacity, with short supply for several component.

In addition to the production shortage the companies are increasing prices in double-digit and this explains the terrible performance in the first 3 quarters of the year.
