Bulgaria vehicles market in October 2023 grows for the 16th month in a row, reporting 4,247 new sales (+71.1%). YTD figures at 35,447 are up 37.0% from the previous year. Ford surges 84.4%, entering into the top 10.

The Bulgarian vehicle market in October 2023 grows for the 16th month in a row, reporting 4,247 new sales (+71.1%). YTD figures at 35,447 are up 37.0% from the previous year. 

Looking at cumulative data up to October 2023 brand-wise, Toyota is still the market’s leader with 4,207 sales (+27.3%), followed by Skoda -up 2 spots- with 3,248 new vehicle registrations (+60.5%) and Renault -down 1 spot- with 3,206 units sold (+17.1%).

Volkswagen grows 1 spot into in 4th with 3,169 sales (+68.9%), in front of Dacia -down 2 spots- with 3,017 new registrations (+21.7%), Hyundai at 2,244 (+42.9%), Kia -down 1 spot- with 2,035 units sold (+19.1%) and Ford -up 3 spots- with 1,741 sales (+84.4%).

Peugeot maintains 9th position reporting 1,655 sales (+14.2%) and Mercedes closes the top 10 with 1,506 units sold so far (+46.5%).

Medium-Term Market Trend

The car market in recent years was steadily recovering from the huge fall reported in 2009. The market was improving since 2014 and in 2018 reached 41,390 sales (+10.8%) before hitting the best level of the decade in 2019 – almost equalizing the 2008’s volume – with 44,449 units sold (+7.4%).

Sales in 2020 were heavily influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, impacting all sectors. In fact, 28,705 units have been sold, reporting a decline of 35.4%.

Following the decline reported during the pandemic, in 2021 the market recovered 15.4% while accumulating 31,138 new light vehicle sales.
