Mexico 2023. YTD figures at 1.10 million are up 25.3% from the previous year. Mazda surges 62.6% in year-on-year sales.

Mexico Cars Market in October 2023 rises for the 18th month in a row, with 113,672 new sales (+24.8%). YTD figures at 1.10 million are up 25.3% from the previous year. Mazda surges 62.6% in year-on-year sales.

Market Trend and Outlook

The Mexican economy is in the midst of a broad-based expansion. Growth is expected to be 3.2 percent by the end of 2023, led by robust private consumption and investment, with notable strength in service sectors, construction, and auto production. This has led to record-low unemployment rates and record-high manufacturing capacity utilization rates. The authorities have commendably kept public debt in check. Monetary policy is rightly focused on bringing down inflation.

This strong momentum is evident in the Mexican Vehicle Market, with sales in October 2023 rising for the 18th month in a row and reaching  113,672 new monthly registrations (+24.8%). YTD figures at 1.10 million are up 25.3% from the previous year.

Looking at cumulative data up to October 2023 brand-wise, the first two spots remain unchanged, with Nissan in 1st at 194,357 sales (+47.5%) and Chevrolet in 2nd at 138,935 (+11.6%), while Volkswagen rises 1 spots into 3rd with 90,745 registrations (+23.8%).

Toyota falls 1 spot into 4th position with 83,009 sales (+9.2%), followed by Kia with 77,563 sales (+4.8%), Mazda -up 1 spot- at 60,106 (+62.6%), MG with 45,507 registrations (+19.8%) and Hyundai with 39,688 units sold (+16.5%).

Ford maintains 9th with 37,573 sales (+13.8%) and Renault  closes the Top 10 with 35,021 units sold (+26.6%).

Looking at specific models the Nissan Versa is the market’s best seller, with an 57.7% year-on-year increase in sales, followed by the Nissan NP300 up 62.4% and 1 spot.

Medium-Term Market Trend

The Mexican automotive industry grew uninterruptedly from 2010 to 2016 with sales booming from 803,263 in 2010 to the all-time high at 1,61 million in 2016. The trend reversed in 2017 falling for 3 years down to 1.32 million in 2019.

Covid-19 forced manufacturers and distributers to close down, causing the car market to drop 28% to 952,982 sales by the end of 2020.

After the pandemic the market recovered, growing 6% in 2021 back above the 1 million mark. 2022 grew another 7% to 1.09 million cumulative sales. Despite the market reporting increases in sales, lately the global industry has been confronting some big problems: firstly a disruption in the global supply chain caused by a lack of raw materials, in particular for the production of microchips and the Governments push towards Evs, an expensive alternative for many consumers if compared to ICE vehicles.

Canada 2023. Vehicle Market In October Surges For The 11th Consecutive Month (+21.6%) https://www.focus2move.com/canada-auto-sales/ Tue, 14 Nov 2023 11:30:20 +0000 https://focus2move.com/?p=59629 Canadian auto sales in October 2023 grow for the 11th month in a row, with 145,892 new registrations (+21.6%). YTD figures at 1.41 million are up 10.1% from the previous year.

Canadian auto sales in October 2023 grow for the 11th month in a row, with 145,892 new registrations (+21.6%). YTD figures at 1.41 million are up 10.1% from the previous year.

Market trend and Outlook

The Canadian economy hasn’t performed well in the current year. Deloitte states: “One of the biggest surprises over the past year has been the resilience of economic growth in the face of aggressive monetary tightening. We finally saw some of the negative impact in the second quarter of this year, with real GDP falling by 0.2%. Over the near term, we expect the economy to continue to struggle in the face of high household debt, soaring interest payments, and stubbornly persistent inflation.”

The economic struggle hasn’t reflected yet in the country’s vehicle market, which in October 2023 grew for the 11th month in a row, reporting 145,892 new vehicle sales (+21.6%). YTD figures at 1.41 million are up 10.1% from the prior year.

Looking at cumulative data up to October 2023 brand-wise, the leader Toyota grows 8.8% in sales with 163,893 new registrations.

In 2nd place ranks Ford with 162,395 sales (-17.9%), followed in 3rd by Chevrolet with 113,114 units sold (+17.1%).

The Korean manufacturer Hyundai ranks in 4th, with 97,301 sales and a 1.3% in year-on-year performance.

Honda maintains 5th with 95,829 sales (+20.6%), followed by GMC at 83,264 (+15.3%), Kia at 74,263 (+31.9%), RAM with 71,341 units sold (+6.0%), Nissan with 69,931 new registrations (+15.0%) and Mazda in 10th place with 49,233 sales (+11.7%).

Looking at specific models the Ford F-series is still the best seller with a 11.5% loss in year-on year volume, followed by the Ram pick-up up 6.3%.

As one of the world’s top producers of light vehicles – 1.4 million vehicles are assembled at the Canadian plants of Stellantis, Ford, GM, Honda, and Toyota each year, supplied by nearly 700 parts suppliers – Canada’s automotive sector is heavily reliant on global supply chains.

Following significant losses borne by the global automotive industry in the wake of border closures, factory lockdowns and semiconductor chip shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada’s sector has been especially vulnerable to supply chain constraints.

Automakers have been driven to pursue leaner and more creative risk mitigation and cost-efficient strategies to bypass further disruption, including strengthening relationships or dual sourcing with suppliers to increase supply chain flexibility, diversifying markets, and building inventory.

However, these actions have not been able to fix the issues in place and the domestic market keeps decline.

Medium-Term Market Trend

Following an impressive series of 8 consecutive growth, the Canadian domestic light vehicles market in 2017 broke the 2 million units milestone, hitting the current all-time record and entering the club of the top 10 largest global vehicle industries.

However, such an outstanding level was not maintained for long. In 2019 (-3.7%) the market entered in a negative phase that has not yet come to an end. 2022 ,in fact, maintained this downfall, losing 7.6%, reaching 1.51 million sales and reporting losses in 11 out of 12 months.

This year perspectives are not good, as in 2023 the risk of an economic recession should further hit the consumer’s demand, on top of current negative impact of high inflation, raising interest rates, near doubled cost of fuel price, components shortage.

USA Vehicles Sales in October 2023 reach 1.20 million, a 1.9% year-on-year increase and the 15th consecutive monthly growth. YTD figures at 12.83 million are up 13.6% from the previous year.

Market Trend and Outlook

The American vehicles market in October 2023 reported 1.2 million new registrations, the 15th consecutive monthly growth (+23.7%). YTD figures at 12.83  million are up 13.6% compared to the previous year.

Looking at cumulative data up to October 2023 brand-wise, Ford gains leadership with 1.58 million sales (+8.9%), followed by Toyota with 1.55 million new registrations (+9.1%) and Chevrolet in 3rd with 1.44 million units sold (+16.1%).

Honda maintains 4th position with 951,134 sales (+31.0%), in front of Nissan in 5th with 709,983 sales (+25.8%), Kia at 663,855 (+19.5%), Hyundai with 651,263 sales (+12.0%) and Tesla in 8th with 545,791 new registrations (+23.3%).

Jeep falls 4 spots into 9th with 537,112 sales (-8.8%) and Subaru closes the top 10 with 520,992 units sold (+15.9%).

Looking at specific models the Ford F-Series remains the best seller with a 21.1% increase in year-on-year volume, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado up 3.8%.

Medium-Term Market Trend

After the fall reported as consequence of 2008 economic crisis, when then market dropped from near 18 to 10 million annual volumes, since the 2010 the market recovered supported by a quite positive economic cycle.

Starting at 11.5 million in 2010, the American light vehicles market rose for 6 consecutive years, ending 2016 with a peak of 17.6 million sales. From 2017 to 2019 the market bounced around the low 17 million mark.

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 made many manufacturers and distributors close down, causing a big problem in the automobile industry, with sales in the US falling 13.9% to 14.7 million by the end of the year.

After the issues caused by the pandemic the American light vehicle market started to show signs of recovery in 2021 with sales finishing at 15.3 million, 4.3% higher than the previous year. This recovery didn’t last long, in fact the market fell 8.9% to 13.65 million cumulative sales.

A combination of factors are behind the current industry struggles: the microchips and other components shortage, combined with skyrocketing raw material cost pushed up the new vehicles transaction prices (price effectively paid by the final customer) by over 10% in the last 12 months. In addition most demanded models are in short supply with waiting time tripled since 2020. Transition to electric vehicles is further pushing up the new vehicles average price as the gap between a combustion and electric car is still very significant.

Canada Best-Selling Cars ranking reports a negative trend for most models. Ford F-series maintains 1st position for over 40 years, followed by the Ram pick-up (+3.1%) and the Toyota RAV4 (-9.7%).

Reporting on the best-selling models sold this year in Canada is hard to find models with a positive year on year trend, considering the negative trend in place in the market.

The Ford F-series has maintained the throne for over 40 years, with sales in the first in 2022 reaching 114,729 (-1.4%).

The second-best model is the Ram Pick up with 75,740 sales (+3.1%) and the third is the Toyota RAV4 reporting 55,921 sales (-9.7%).

In fourth place ranks the Chevrolet Silverado -up 4 spots- with 53,281 units sold (+46.3%) ahead of the GMC Sierra at 52,318 (-2.7%), the Toyota Corolla at 33,096 (-19.1%) and Honda CR-V -down 2 spots- with 32,096 (-37.0%).

In eight place the Honda Civic -down 2 spots- with 29,722 (-31.8%) ahead of the Hyundai Kona at 24,579 (-21.0%) and in 10th place the Hyundai Elantra -up 3 spots- with 24,559 cumulative registrations (-6.7%)
