Serbia Auto Industry in 2015 up in double-digit thanks to a roaring Q4 when sales improved 33% over the correspondent period in the previous year, Fiat’s sales boomed gaining the market leadership over Skoda.

Economic Outlook

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic called for snap general elections two years before the end of the current government’s mandate. Although the governing coalition led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNP) has a majority in Parliament, Vucic seeks to consolidate SNP’s position and ensure an extension of his mandate before embarking on a new round of austerity measures as requested by the IMF under the Stand-By Arrangement.

The elections will likely be held in late April together with the local and municipal polls. Recent opinion polls show that the SNP will likely triumph on the ballot. The change in government is not expected to bring about big deviations in economic policy, with the SNP continuing along the same pro-EU policies.

Recent data show that the Serbian economy continued to recover in the final quarter of 2015. In December, industrial production recorded another double-digit growth rate and retail sales accelerated notably.

Market Outlook

Q4 2015 was astonishing with market booming over 33% from the correspondent period in the previous year and the 2015 could end with a remarkable increase after years of difficulties mainly due to the extremely weak economic trend in the country.

Full year 2015 sales had been 21.666, up 10.0%.

Thanks to a tremendous Q4 performance, Fiat has taken the leadership with 3.845 sales (+34.5%) with 17.6% of market share, 0.4 points of share better than the former leader, Skoda, arrived at 3.749 sales (+11.0%).

Third was Volkswagen with 1.921 sales (+2.1%), followed by Ford with 1522 (+44.4%), Opel with 1.464 (+39.6%), Dacia with 1.386 (+2.5%) and Renault with 1.260 (+23.5%).

The Fiat 500L was the best-selling model with 1.819 registrations (+68.1%) ahead of the Skoda Fabia with 1.194 and the Skoda Rapid with 1.085.
